Homework to complete before Session 2

  • Turn your attention towards your Inner Team, with particular attention to:

    • Activations of your Insiders: when did they activate? What did it feel like when this part activated? How did the part affect your thinking, feelings, body sensations or behaviors?

    • Activation of your Inner Critic: If your Inner Critic activates, see if you can identify what rule of behavior you broke, and which part is the holder of that rule.

    • Ambivalence: Notice any experience of ambivalence, mixed feelings, internal arguments. Who are the two (or more) parts involved?

    • The Protector: Notice moments when fear, worry or anxiety activate in you. What felt true in that moment? What actions felt necessary in that moment?

Exercise Handout:

Post-Session Exercises and Reflections

  • Direct your attention to one of your Insiders. Notice what activates it, what it feels like when it is influencing (or running) your Inner Team. What feels true about yourself, others and the way the world works?

  • When you are in relationship with someone who seems to have easy access to a quality that’s an Outsider in you, what's that experience like? What reactions do you notice in yourself? How would you describe the quality of relationship between you?

  • Pay particular attention to the characters we associated with the Control domain: see if you can pick up indicators in yourself or your clients when these parts are activated. What are the signs and signals that these parts are present?

Session 3

The Inner Leader, Creative Competencies, the Complying Domain

Post-Session Exercises and Reflections

  • Pay particular attention to the characters we associated with the Complying domain: see if you can pick up indicators in yourself or your clients when these parts are activated. What are the signs and signals that these parts are present?

See if you can identify when your parts got involved in your coaching: Who came up? What activated them? What impact did it have in your session?

  • Pick a pair of characters where you have access to both sides. What’s the experience of holding the tension between them.

Characters Associated with the Protecting Domain

Post-Session Exercises and Reflections

  • Conduct at least one ITD session (we recommend 2-3), and journal about the experience, using the following prompt questions:

    • What went well? What felt easy, or flowed?

    • What felt harder, challenging, messy?

    • What surprised you?

    • What did you learn from the experience?

    • What questions are you sitting with?

    • What characters from your Inner Team were activated? What impact did that have?

  • Practice explaining the Inner Team metaphor to someone unfamiliar with ITD - find your language for this

  • In session five, we’ll have a panel of ITD practitioners who will be present to share their experiences with you and answer your questions. Reflect on what questions you’d like to ask during this panel. Come to session 5 with at least one question which feels important to you.
